Unveiling the Hidden Laughter: GameCube's Easter Egg Start-Up Sound

For many gamers, the GameCube start-up sound is a cherished memory from their childhoods. However, after 23 years, a surprising secret has emerged – there's an alternate version of the familiar xylophone jingle, and it's absolutely hilarious.

Shared online by an employee at Secret Castle Toys, a local game shop in Owensboro, Kentucky, the secret Easter egg start-up noise has taken the internet by storm. Gamers are left wondering how such a delightful secret remained hidden for so long. According to the employee who spilled the beans via a TikTok video, accessing the Easter egg is as simple as holding down the Z button on the controller during the console's boot-up.

When performed correctly, the Easter egg transforms the well-known xylophone jingle into a sequence of amusing squeaks, reminiscent of a squeaky dog toy being stepped on repeatedly. This accompanies the animated G-shaped logo unfurling across the screen. The secret start-up sound concludes with the infectious laughter of a child.

As reported and confirmed by Kotaku, the secret intro sound is indeed legitimate, somehow escaping discovery since the GameCube's launch in 2001. The comments under the TikTok video are filled with viewers expressing their surprise at missing out on this easily activated secret, although some claim to have known about it for years.

One commenter reminisced, "Knowing this was my biggest flex back in the day."
